“If one looks closely, there are many wonderful shapes, shadows, and lines to be captured at any given moment. I actively look for these images upon concrete walls, power lines, scrap metal materials and abandoned buildings and construction sites. Magical images are there for the taking! Nature offers the same… I then freeze these images either by photograph or sketch and translate them to the canvas. I ‘feel’ the compositions for rhythm, working visually as I would in creating a musical song. There is the vibration, the energy, the wrestling and the roller coaster ride of the Painter!

Laura began her arts journey in the mid 1970’s in Atlanta, Georgia as a singer/songwriter and recording artist. Her desire to push and explore rhythmic expression ‘accidentally’ led her to working with paint and mixed media materials, always pushing towards abstraction. In 2000 she began the study of painting and drawing with internationally known artist Cheryl Baird, at the Spruill Center for the Arts in Atlanta. She relocated to Charlottesville, Virginia where she was a juried Studio member at the McGuffey Center for the Arts.

Laura has now returned to her Georgia roots in the North Georgia mountains. She works out of Skyport Studios with other Contemporary artists in the area. Her works have shown in local galleries throughout the southeast and her private collections have expanded to Central and South America and Europe.

In 2009 Laura completed an Artist Residency Program at the Vermont Studio Center in Johnson, Vermont. The Studio Center is the largest international artists’ and writers’ residency program in the United States, hosting 50 residents each month from across the country and around the world.
